I obtained my Bachelor’s degree (1986) and PhD (1990) in the University of Barcelona I subsequently joined the same institution as an Assistant Lecturer, becoming a Tenured Associate Professor in 1991. After a period at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (1994), I joined the University of Girona in 1995, where I was appointed Full Professor of Statistics and Econometrics in 2003. My academic career spans nearly four decades, during which I have made sustained contributions to spatial and spatio-temporal statistical methodology, Bayesian inference, mixed-effects modelling and advanced survival analysis. My applied research focuses on environmental epidemiology—particularly climate change impacts on health—socioeconomic and environmental health inequalities, and clinical epidemiology including COVID-19 surveillance and cardiovascular risk assessment.

I have authored 278 ISI-JCR indexed publications (57 in the last five years), including 130 Q1 papers (43 in the past five years), and an additional 31 articles in non-indexed journals. My publication portfolio is complemented by 27 books and 12
book chapters. I have consistently demonstrated strong scientific leadership as Head of the Research Group on Statistics, Econometrics and Health (GRECS), a consolidated group within both the CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health (national) and the AGAUR SGR programme (regional). I also serve as a member of the Catalan Expert Group on Climate Change, and as an Associate Researcher at the CRES – Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

My research is supported by a robust and sustained funding record. I am currently PI of two competitive regional projects, and have previously served as PI of one competitive international project, a Work Package leader in a European competitive
project, and PI of eight national and six regional competitive projects. I have participated as a co-investigator in multiple large-scale initiatives, including three European, 24 national, and 10 regional competitive projects. Furthermore, I have
led 11 non-competitive research projects, 45 research contracts, and 10 non-remunerated institutional agreements, demonstrating extensive experience engaging with public health agencies, hospitals, and governmental institutions.

I have supervised 30 completed PhD theses and currently supervise nine doctoral candidates. Additionally, I have supervised 12 Master’s dissertations. I have been awarded five research productivity tranches (sexenios)—one currently
active—and one active transfer sexenio, reflecting recognition of both scientific impact and knowledge translation. My work has been distinguished with 14 research awards and five postdoctoral fellowships, and I am currently progressing one patent and hold two entries in the Intellectual Property Registry. My bibliometric indicators reflect sustained international impact: h-index 47, 7,660 citations in Web of Science, ranking in the top 1% of researchers at the University of Girona in both publication volume (4th of 3,626 researchers; percentile 99.89) and h- index (15th of 3,626; percentile 99.59). I am also a Chartered Statistician (CStat) of the Royal Statistical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Throughout my career I have contributed to capacity building in advanced statistical methods, organising over 30 specialised workshops, courses and seminars. My research outputs have informed regional and national public health policies, especially in relation to environmental exposures, climate-related health risks, socioeconomic inequalities and the epidemiological dynamics of COVID-19. I maintain an active international collaboration network and a strong commitment to methodological innovation aimed at addressing complex population health challenges.
