Prof. Dr. Marc Saez
I earned my bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Administration (1986) and my doctorate in Mathematics (1990), both from the University of Barcelona. I began my career as an assistant professor in Statistics and Econometrics at the same university, where I obtained a full professor position in 1991. In 1994, I moved to Pompeu Fabra University and, since 1995, I have been with the University of Girona, where I have been a Professor of Statistics and Econometrics since 2003.
My research interests cover both methodological (spatiotemporal models, mixed models, and Bayesian statistics) and applied aspects, especially in epidemiology. I have worked in environmental epidemiology, socioeconomic inequalities in health, climate change, and clinical epidemiology, with an emphasis on COVID-19 and cardiovascular risk factors. I am the author of 278 articles in JCR journals (130 in Q1), 27 books, and 12 book chapters.
I currently have one patent pending and three intellectual property registrations, and I have also collaborated on the development of web applications and libraries in R. I am a Chartered Statistician of the Royal Statistical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, reflecting my commitment to the interdisciplinary application of statistics in public health and the environment.
